The Blackfriars Bridge in London, Ont., will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic for the next few days.
Starting Monday, the historic bridge will only be accessible to pedestrians and cyclists while crews work to complete the installation of accent lighting.
The closure will last until Friday.
Lighting installation began in the fall of 2022 and finishing touches are expected to be completed with this week's work.
In the past, vandalism that damaged newly installed LED lighting prolonged efforts to finish the lighting project.
The iconic Blackfriars Bridge is 147 years old.
In 2018, it was removed from its footings as part of an $8-million refurbishment project. It's one of North America's last wrought-iron, bowstring-arch truss bridges. Adding the lighting was a part of the restoration plans.
City officials say the lighting will profile the bridge's bowstring arch trusses.
The closure comes one day before city council's vote on whether or not to allow eastbound vehicular traffic year-round.
