A BJP young wing member in his post quoted Finance Minister Thiaga Rajan as having said that a jacket worn by CM Stalin cost Rs 17 crore. He has been arrested for spreading 'false information'.
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) functionary Arul Prasad has been arrested in Salem for spreading 'defamatory information' about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
The BJP youth wing member recently tweeted an image of Stalin wearing a jacket. He alleged in his post that the jacket cost around Rs 17 crore. Prasad then attributed the cost of attire to Finance Minister Thiaga Rajan.
Finance Minister then flagged the post on his verified Twitter page, saying this could be one of the first cases to be cracked by social media cell of the Tamil Nadu police. In its budget, the DMK government had revealed plans to establish a special social media centre to prevent increasing crimes resulting from fake news.
Based on the complaint filed by the Salem unit of DMK, police arrested Arul Prasad under sections 153A, 504, 505(2)IPC.
DMK had also demanded Annamalai to tender an unconditional public apology to Chief Minister M K Stalin immediately and pay Rs 100 crore as damages to the chief minister's relief fund for allegedly making "false, frivolous, vile and scandalous" remarks against Stalin.
