State president B.Y. Vijayendra demands fair probe. In a note, the deceased claimed that ‘his ordeal began when a politically motivated FIR was filed against him for a message posted in a WhatsApp group by another member’.
A 40-year-old BJP worker was found dead in an office in Bengaluru on April 3 night. The deceased, Vinay Somaiah, hails from Madikeri.
Hennur police said he was found dead in a housekeeping office at Nagawara where he was employed. The body was sent for post-mortem.
Vinay Somaiah posted a long note on WhatsApp before allegedly ending his life. In the note, he has alleged harassment and that he was framed in a false case.
In the note, Vinay Somaiah claimed that ‘his ordeal began when a politically motivated FIR was filed against him for a message posted in a WhatsApp group by another member’. Despite having been made an admin for the group only five days earlier, he was allegedly targeted by a person whom he held directly responsible for his suffering.
The FIR led to social media humiliation, with his photos being circulated without consent, causing distress to his family, the note states.
Vinay Somaiah claimed that even after securing bail, the harassment continued. His friends and relatives were questioned by the police under political pressure.
BJP State unit president B.Y. Vijayendra expressed condolence over the death. He urged the government of Karnataka to conduct a fair enquiry to bring those responsible for his death to justice. In a post on X, Mr. Vijayendara stated: “The death of Kodagu BJP worker Vinay Somaiah is a deeply saddening incident. A thorough and transparent investigation must be conducted to uncover the truth behind his tragic demise”.
