Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Monday that once the ongoing Jan Sankalp Yatra of the BJP concludes, the party will take out rath yatras to cover all 224 Assembly constituencies in the State.
Speaking to presspersons at Kaup near Udupi, Mr. Bommai said that a rath yatra each will begin from North Karnataka and South Karnataka to organise the party workers and people in view of next year’s elections to the State Legislative Assembly.
He was in Udupi to participate in the Jan Sankalp Yatra of the party at Kaup.
Taking on the Congress, he said that the former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah is under illusion that the people will bring back the Congress to power in the State. The Congress after five years of ruling in the State under the leadership of Mr. Siddaramaiah could not return to power on its own. “The Congress which had won 120 plus seats in 2013 Assembly election, could win only 77 seats in 2018 Assembly polls. The electorate had rejected the Congress. The people have not forgotten its divide and rule policy,” he said.
Mr. Bommai said that 50 years of ruling the country by the Congress was mired in corruption. The Congress is “Gangotri” of corruption and it started with that party. The Congress leaders are making baseless allegations on corruption against the BJP government to cover up their own.
“Their allegations are bundle of lies. It is beyond doubt that Congress means lie, lie means Congress. The corruption during the Congress rule in the State is being probed,” he said.
