On Saturday, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah said that the BJP has used Kashmiri Pandits as a “vote bank” but done nothing for them. Additionally, he apologised to the community for not having been able to safeguard them in the 1990s when the Kashmiri Pandit exodus had taken place.
Farooq Abdullah’s statements come after the minority cell of the J&K National Conference, of which he is the chairman, moved and passed three resolutions regarding Kashmiri Pandits. The minority cell of the political party, through the resolutions, demanded political reservation for Kashmiri Pandits, passage of the Kashmiri Hindu temple protection bill and a comprehensive package for return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.
