‘Congress is watching the political developments very closely’
Former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to topple Chief Minister N. Rangasamy’s government.
“The BJP, which has formed the government in alliance with the All India N.R. Congress, is trying to remove the Chief Minister and install its own government by luring legislators in the Union Territory,” he said, interacting with media on the sidelines of the Congress party’s protest against the fuel price hike in front of his house in the town.
Terming the absence of Home Minister A. Namassivayam and other BJP legislators from the Assembly during the presentation of vote-on-account an insult to democratic principles, the former Chief Minister said the government should explain the necessity for the Ministers to go abroad at a time when the session was reconvened. The government should explain the purpose of the foreign visit by the Minister and legislators, he demanded.
Asked whether the two Congress legislators would offer their support to Mr. Rangasamy in case of a political uncertainty, the former Chief Minister said, “We are watching the political developments very closely.”
The Chief Minister is only keen on protecting his own position rather than the welfare of the people, he said adding: “He [CM] has not uttered a word on the hike in fuel prices or criticised the Centre. The Chief Minister is only bothered about his chair,” he charged.
Earlier in the day, the former Chief Minister along with party workers staged a symbolic protest in front of his house by placing flower garlands on a motorbike and a gas cylinder.
Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Dakshina Kannada MP, on Saturday urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to facilitate speeding up of ongoing critical infrastructure works in the region, including Mangaluru-Bengaluru NH 75 widening, establishment of Indian Coast Guard Academy, and merger of Konkan Railway Corporation with the Indian Railways.
