The BJP slammed the Maharashtra government for its decision to give 300 flats to MLAs. BJP MLA Ram Kadam said instead the flats should be given to widows of army jawans and front line workers.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed the Maharashtra government's decision of giving 300 flats in Mumbai to MLAs. The announcement was made by state housing minister Jitendra Ahwad.
BJP MLA Ram Kadam said instead the flats should be given to widows of army jawans and front line workers.
The saffron party also alleged that these houses are being given to MLAs as MVA fears they will defect and join the BJP.
"We are not against houses being given to MLAs but they should prioritise widows of army jawans and front line workers who lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic. These people should be given free houses first. The government has tried to defame MLAs by announcing this scheme. This is a move by MVA to keep their flock together," Kadam said.
In response to these allegations, Ahwad said that these flats are not for free and won't be given to MLAs from Mumbai.
"MLAs from Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) would not be eligible for these apartments and only legislators who did not have a house in Mumbai could benefit from them. There are many people, like actors, media workers and others who have got flats. This is not a new announcement. Ram Kadam should tell his party MLAs that they should not apply for these houses. The minimum amount for these houses is between Rs 70 lakhs to Rs 1 crore," Ahwad said.
Awhad made the announcement in the state assembly on Thursday, saying the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) will be constructing the flats for the MLAs in Mumbai’s western suburb of Goregaon.
