BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis hands letter to Maharashtra Guv, seeks floor test in Assembly
India Today
BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis has handed a letter to the governor seeking a floor test.
The leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis, met Governor BS Koshyari on Tuesday evening and handed him a letter seeking a floor test.
He requested the governor to ask Uddhav Thackeray to prove his majority. "We have given a letter to the governor, in which we have informed him that Shiv Sena's 39 MLAs are saying that they are not with the Sena and they do not want to support the Maha Vikas Aghadi government," said Fadnavis.
In the letter to the governor, Fadnavis mentioned, “In the last 8-9 days, the Shiv Sena has seen an implosion. A total of 39 MLAs from the Shiv Sena have stated that they don’t want an alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress. This shows Uddhav Thackeray does not have a majority in the Assembly.”
“Shiv Sena MLAs in Guwahati are being threatened. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut has been saying that 40 corpses will return from Guwahati. In a parliamentary democracy, a majority on the floor of the House is the most important thing. Without that, this government cannot exist. Hence, we request you to ask the chief minister to prove his majority. I am attaching some of the Supreme Court verdicts along with this letter,” Fadnavis stated, adding that Shiv Sena and the BJP fought elections together, but Shiv Sena formed the government with NCP and Congress.
MLAs Chandrakant Patil, Sudhir Munghantiwar, Pravin Darekar, Girish Mahajan, and Ashish Shelar accompanied the former Maharashtra chief minister.
The move came shortly after Fadnavis’s 1.5-hour meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Eknath Shinde called for an emergency meeting with all rebel MLAs at the hotel Radisson Blu in Guwahati.
