BJP MLA and former minister S. T. Somashekhar attended the unveiling of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi on January 21.
He said he attended the event as it was a government programme and that he had been invited by the government of Karnataka. “I am an original Congressman and a follower of Gandhiji. Others may play politics, but I will not do that. Playing politics over everything is not good. It is true that there is a lot of difference between BJP and Gandhiji’s ideology. Some BJP members and leaders may not come, but I have come as I believe in Gandhiji’s ideology,” he said.
To a query, he said he is not thinking about joining the Congress as of now. “Let us see later,” he said.

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi said the Pakistan-instigated terrorists attacked innocent tourists visiting Pahalgam. For many years, the nation had been the victim of terrorist attacks. However, terrorists have attacked again. We will give them a fitting reply,” he said.
