The Bengal BJP is considering boycotting the monsoon session of the assembly over the suspension of seven MLAs, including Shuvendu Adhikari, in the Budget session in March.
The BJP in Bengal, the principal opposition in the state, is mulling boycotting the upcoming monsoon session of the assembly over the suspension of MLAs, the party’s Bengal president Sukanta Majumder said. Seven MLAs, including Shuvendu Adhikari, were suspended by the Speaker during the Budget session of the assembly.
The suspended MLAs will not be able to attend the monsoon session which is scheduled to begin on June 10. So, the entire BJP legislative party may boycott the upcoming session, Majumdar said.
“Our Leader of Opposition Subhendu Adhikari and the chief whip, Manoj Tigga, and some other senior MLAs have been suspended from the assembly. So the party will discuss it with the Leader of the Opposition. Since this is going to be a very important session, the government will try to bring in Bills which are controversial, such as the removal of Governor from the post of the chancellors of the universities. Most importantly, the SSC scam has stumbled out of the government’s closet. We know this session is going to be very important,” he told India Today TV.

Asked about the future course of action for the party, Sukanta Majumdar said, “We have to discuss it with the Leader of the Opposition before fixing our future course of action.”
Although not inside the assembly, BJP legislators will hold a mock session at the foot of the Ambedkar statue on the assembly premises to protest against Bills introduced by the ruling Trinamool Congress, sources within the state BJP told India Today TV.
