The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has attacked Mahagathbandhan in Bihar after the ruling alliance leaders demanded withdrawing of general consent to CBI by the Bihar government.
A war of words has erupted between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Mahagathbandhan in Bihar after the ruling alliance leaders demanded the withdrawal of general consent to the CBI by the Bihar government alleging misuse of the premier investigating agency by BJP against the opposition leaders.
The BJP has said that the call by Mahagathbandhan to withdraw general consent to the CBI was unfortunate and maintained that investigating agencies should be free to carry out investigations in any part of the country.
The BJP's leader of opposition Samrat Chowdhary, said that it was RJD leader Shivanand Tiwari and JDU leader Lalan Singh who had petitioned for CBI probe in fodder scam against Lalu Prasad and it was them who are now opposition CBI.
"CBI was brought to Bihar by Shivanand Tiwary and Lalan Singh to investigate fodder scam after they have filed application and it is they who are opposing CBI now. An atmosphere was being created against CBI in the country by political parties. If Bihar government withdraws general consent, it will be unfortunate as investigating agencies should be independent," said Samrat Chowdhary, leader of opposition in Bihar legislative council.
Earlier, on Sunday, Mahagathbandhan leaders came out in support of withdrawal of general consent to CBI by the state government claiming that the premier investigating agency was been misused by the BJP government to target opposition.
RJD leader Shivanand Tiwari said "Mahagathbandhan leaders have unanimously felt that general consent for CBI in Bihar should be withdrawn as it was being misused by BJP to target opposition leaders. The manner in which nine other states have withdrawn general consent to CBI for investigation, Bihar should also follow suit."
"CBI has become a political tool of the BJP to target opposition. CBI was being misused in opposition ruled states like Delhi and Bengal also. The motive of the BJP is clear and therefore questions on CBI is being raised," said Neeraj Kumar, former minister and Janata Dal United leader.
