The BJP in Bengal has begun preparations for the panchayat poll with a renewed focus on trouncing the Trinamool Congress. The party’s central leadership has called top leaders of the state for an emergency meeting on August 11.
The BJP’s Bengal president, Sukanta Majumder, its vice president Dilip Ghosh and Suvendu Adhikari will attend the meeting. The party’s central observer, Amit Malviya, is also expected to be present.
The party’s state unit will undergo several changes before the panchayat elections, which are scheduled to be held in the next eight months. The party will treat the polls as a dress rehearsal for the 2024 finals - the general elections.
According to sources, the organizational structure of the state unit may see strategic overhaul. The party feels its weak organization may undermine its chances in the state in 2024, they said.
On the one hand, there will be emphasis on booth-wise empowerment, while on the other, there may be a discussion on ways to make each central project more visible to the people of Bengal to help them connect more with the party.
The BJP has also drafted several points against the Trinamool government - corruption charges against top party leaders and ministers are expected to top the list.
