
BJD wins 95 of 108 municipalities in Odisha civic elections

The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) registered a thumping victory in the Odisha municipal elections, winning three municipal corporations and 95 out of 108 urban local body councils.
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has won 95 of 108 municipalities in the Odisha civic elections, the results of which were announced on Saturday.
The opposition BJP and Congress remained distant second and third by securing 16 and seven seats respectively, while independents won nine seats.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik thanked people for their overwhelming support.
He wrote on Twitter, "I thank all the people of #Odisha for the overwhelming support in #OdishaMunicipalElection. The win is a reflection of the outpouring of love for @bjd_odisha and the untiring effort of thousands of party workers. #OdishaLovesBJD."
BJD candidate Sulochana Das has won the election to the post of Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Sulochana Das won 1, 74,562 votes and trounced her nearest rival Suniti Mund of the BJP by a margin of 61,143 votes. Congress candidate Madhusmita Acharya was a distant third with 11,006 votes. A total of 2,351 voters chose the NOTA option above the Aam Admi Party and the BSP.
