Birbhum arson case: Another victim succumbs to injuries, death toll rises to 10

The death toll in the Birbhum arson case rose to ten on Sunday, after one of the victims succumbed to her wounds.
Another victim in Bengal's Birbhum arson case succumbed to her injuries, taking the death toll to 10. The deceased has been identified as Atahara Bibi.
Atleast eight people died in the arson incident in Birbhum's Bogtui village on March 21 and many were injured. According to the police, Athara Bibi was among the injured. She was receiving medical treatment at Rampurhat Hospital.
She was discharged from the hospital last Friday, but last night she was readmitted after her health deteriorated. She succumbed early Sunday morning.
On March 21, several houses were torched in retaliation after a local TMC leader, Bhadu Sheikh, was killed.
Sheikh was the deputy panchayat pradhan of Bogtui village. He was killed when unidentified assailants hurled crude bombs at his house in Rampurhat. His murder is being investigated by the Birbhum police.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested five people in connection with the Birbhum arson case.
