Bihar MLC polls: NDA wins 13 of 24 seats as Rajput, Bhumihar candidates dominate results

The NDA won 13 out of the 24 seats in the recently concluded Bihar MLC polls on Thursday.
The Bihar Legislative Council poll which was held on Thursday saw the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) winning 13 out of the 24 seats that were being contested.
The Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) could only manage six seats. While the independent candidates secured four seats, with Congress only securing one.
The BJP, Janata Dal (United) and Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party had made an alliance to contest the Legislative Council elections in the state. BJP had fielded 12 candidates, Janata Dal (United) -11 and Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party- 1.
Out of the 13 seats won by the NDA, 7 seats were secured by the BJP, 5 from JD(U) and 1 from the RLJP.
Caste has always played an important role in elections in Bihar, which came to the fore in this year’s poll as well.
In the Bihar MLC elections, candidates belonging to the Bhumihar and Rajput castes won the maximum seats. Out of the 24 seats, six candidates from the Bhumihar caste and six candidates from the Rajput caste won.
Winning candidates such as Kartikeya Kumar (RJD) from Patna, Rajeev Kumar (BJP) from Gopalganj, Rajiv Kumar (Congress) Begusarai belonged to the Bhumihar caste.
