The Bihar government will soon conduct a caste-based census in the state. An official proposal will be sent to the state cabinet for approval.
The Bihar government will soon conduct a caste-based census in the state. The decision was taken at an all-party meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday, June 1.
Addressing the media after the meeting, CM Nitish Kumar said that the exercise would be called Jaati Aadharit Ganana. The decision to go ahead with this was unanimously taken by all the political parties present at the meeting, including the BJP.
The Janata Dal United (JDU) leader said that the state government would ensure the entire exercise is completed within a particular time.

" A census will be conducted for people belonging to every religion and caste. The purpose of this exercise is to carry out developmental work for people who are deprived," he said.
The chief minister added that a formal proposal to conduct a caste-based census in the state will soon be brought before the state cabinet for approval, following which the process will begin.
CM Nitish Kumar said since conducting the caste-based census is a herculean task, which involves huge expenditure, the state government will be making arrangements for it.
