Biden scoffs at possible Communion ban over abortion stance

President Biden on Friday brushed off the possibility that Catholic bishops will ban him from receiving Communion over his support for abortion — after US bishops overwhelmingly approved the drafting of a “teaching document” that many hope will restrict Communion accesss.

“That’s a private matter and I don’t think that’s gonna happen,” the second Catholic president told reporters at the White House. US bishops voted 168-55 on Thursday to advance plans for a statement on Communion access that will be reviewed at a future meeting, likely in November.
