The opposition parties and trade unions staged a protest in Chennai in support of the Bharat Bandh called by the farmers' union body Samyukt Kisan Morcha on Monday.
Opposition parties and trade unions on Monday staged a 'road roko' in Chennai in support of the Bharat Bandh called by farmers' union body Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) against the Centre's three farm laws.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the Communist Party of India(Marxist), the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) staged the protest, which was led by CPI(M) leader K Balakrishnan and CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan."This protest is against the Centre's decision over the Farm Acts and the Electricity (Amendment) Bill that are snatching away free electricity from farmers, due to which they have been protesting for 11 months. The protest is to show solidarity towards Samyukt Kisan Morcha's call for Bharat Bandh", said G Balakrishnan, State President of CPI(M).
