South Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Mukesh Suryan announced on Thursday that the Bhagavad Gita will be included in the syllabus of Delhi municipal schools.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led municipal corporations of Delhi are set to include the Bhagavad Gita in their schools.
On Thursday, South Delhi Mayor Mukesh Suryan said that more changes are being made to incorporate India's "real history" into the curriculum.
"While the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government is busy selling English wine and liquor in the city, we are opening one English-medium school in each ward. We will also teach Gita in primary schools. One must visit our model schools," he said.
"Characters of great Indian heroes, who were deliberately kept out of history books, will be included in the syllabus, he said, adding that "this will help shape the personalities of the students and make them true patriots," he said.

The Mayor further said, "Elections or no elections, we are committed to serving the people of Delhi, which is why we are here every time. We have made the city clean and garbage-free, and we have changed people's perceptions of municipal primary schools. In our schools, we offer a quality education to primary students."
Municipal corporation elections will be held in a few months. The BJP has ruled all three municipal corporations—North, East, and South—for the past 15 years.
