Beware of these fake influencer scams, phishing scams on Instagram

Instagram scams are not something unheard of. The new scam that is doing the rounds on the photo-sharing app is targeted at Instagram influencers. The cybercriminals masquerading as brand managers are duping the sponsors and robbing them off of their personal details such as banking details, address phone numbers, and more. As per Sophos Naked Security, the scammers are exploiting the popularity of the influencers. The reports state that cyber criminals pretend to be a known brand and offer influencers an advertising deal. “These scammers pretend to be an established brand and offer influencers an advertising deal. If the influencer is unlucky enough to believe that the deal they are receiving is legitimate, they may hand over their personal banking details in order to be “paid” by the brand,” the report said. Apart from that, there are the usual phishing scams that just refuses to stop. Cybercriminals send a suspicious link on your Instagram direct or via email. Users are tricked to enter their username and password on a fake login page. After gaining access to personal information like passwords, cybercriminals can change the password and even log out the users of their accounts. The account can then be further used to exploit other people.
