Bengaluru: Two held for snatching phone of Congress MLA’s wife

Police have arrested two robbers who had snatched the iPhone of Congress MLA Priyank Kharge's wife in Bengaluru ten days ago.
Bengaluru Police on Tuesday arrested two people for snatching the phone of Congress MLA Priyank Kharge's wife Shruti P Kharge.
Shruti, daugher-in-law of senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, was out for a morning walk in Sadashivnagar in North Bengaluru ten days ago when two bike-borne miscreants snatched her phone.
The accused have been identified as Khwaja Moin (30) and Shaikh Ilyas (25), police said. Police told the Deccan Herald that the duo robbed the iPhone of Kharge when she was out for a morning walk near the Affinity gym on February 6.
Sadashivnagar Police arrested the duo with three others for plotting a dacoity near the main gate of the Palace Grounds. But further interrogation helped the police to solve the iPhone mystery case, Deccan Herald (DH) reported.
The other three accused were also ganged up by the police and the trio is accused of robbing a cab driver in HSR Layout in southeastern Bengaluru. Police also recovered stolen motorbikes, Shruti's robbed phone and lethal weapons from the possession of the accused.
A police source told DH that Moin was arrested earlier in more than 30 robberies and the other accused also had a long criminal record. Both the accused had been arrested for their involvement in various robberies but would get bail quickly .
Notably, after the iPhone was stolen, Priyank Kharge's personal assistant filed a police complaint and police had booked unidentified suspects under Section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police had sent the IME number to all the mobile service providers and asked them to alert them if the phone was switched on.
