A 40-year-old woman, working as a domestic help, died by suicide a day after her employer accused her of theft in Bengaluru on Friday.
According to a report published in the Deccan Herald, the maid, identified as Uma, was found hanging in her KR Puram house in the city.
Earlier on Thursday, her employer had accused her and one other maid of stealing jewellery, cash and other valuables from his home.
The employer, Rohit Bailur, a 41-year-old IT professional, filed a complaint with the KR Puram police and stated that Rs 12.1 lakh worth of jewellery (gold bangles, chains, a necklace and a diamond ring) and Rs 10,000 in cash were stolen from his house sometime between November 1, 2021, and February 10, 2022.
According to the complaint, he suspected that either Uma or another maid named Anjanamma had stolen valuables from his house.
Police summoned Uma on Thursday and interrogated her for hours before letting her off in the evening.
On Friday, just before she killed herself, Uma posted a video message saying that Rohit Bailur has tarnished her image.
