BBMP on Friday banned shops and slaughterhouses under its jurisdiction from selling meat on April 10.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Friday issued an order banning meat sales across Bengaluru on April 10, on the occasion of Ram Navami.
The order said that meat shops and slaughterhouses under the jurisdiction of BBMP will remain closed on Sunday. Previously, the sale of meat was banned on Maha Shivratri and Ganesh Chaturthi.
On April 4, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Mayor Mukkesh Suryaan asked the SDMC commissioner to ensure all meat shops in the SDMC limits remain closed till April 11, the last day of the Navrati festival.
Suryaan cited that during the Navratri, a majority of Delhi households don’t even eat garlic and onions and hence, “keeping in view the sentiments and feelings of general public" necessary orders may be issued for the closure of meat shops.
