Bengaluru is gearing up to tackle the third Covid19 wave which is expected to affect children the most. BBMP on Wednesday held a workshop for 50 pediatricians working in BBMP and government primary healthcare centres, or referral hospitals. Senior doctors from private hospitals will be training all 50 of them. During this training, the doctors will be given hands-on training in operating ventilators. NW, CPAP and also the management of shock in children by eminent pediatric intensivists of the city. They will also be trained to provide CPR for newborns and children. According to the statistics of the American Academy of Pediatrics, for every lakh children, 5000 are testing positive. If the same is extrapolated to Karnataka, which has a population of 1,88,71,326 in the age group of under-18, 9,43,566 children are expected to catch Covid-19. It is predicted that two per cent of the positive children could require hospitalisation, which would amount to 18871. And every one in three of them will require intensive care. So approximately 800 pediatric ICU beds are needed to be created in Karnataka.More Related News
