Activist Garga Chatterjee, who was arrested for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Assamese people, has been asked to surrender before the court of CJM in Guwahati.
Activist Garga Chatterjee, leader of the Bengali rights outfit 'Bangla Pokkho', who was arrested for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Assamese people, has been asked to surrender before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Guwahati.
Kolkata Police arrested activist Garga Chatterjee for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Assamese people and creating enmity between communities.
On the Guwahati court's orders, the Kolkata Police arrested him and brought him before the court. Following this, he applied for bail before the court and the Alipore court granted transit bail but he was asked to surrender before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Gauhati by September 17.
While talking to India Today, Chatterjee said, “Being an abiding citizen, I will surely appear before the court. I will surrender before the law. But it has a context. Since 2018, I have been very vocal against the atrocities done by India all over Indian against Bengal and Bengalis, including the NRC, CAA, including the detention camp. We brought all these to public life. The atrocities against Bengalis have been brought into day lights buy out organization Bangla Pokkho. The BJP has acted the way they can, using state machinery to silence me through multiple false cases ”.
Chatterjee alleges conspiracy and vendetta being played against him, “in this huge country, why everything gets filed in Assam only. Be it Jignesh Mevani, be it Eknath Shinde, all the money is coming from Assam, and be it Jharkhand. Then people very well getting understand. And for me, this harassment is going on for years. It is full vendetta”
He even alleged he is getting death threats, “I am getting death threats which have been brought to the notice of Assam police and court. But no action has been taken.”
