Ben Simmons wants to be treated like the superstar he's not, and for too long the Sixers gave him his way

Simmons is reportedly moving toward returning to Sixers camp, but he can't erase the way he's handled this holdout
Ben Simmons claiming -- via his super spokesperson/agent Rich Paul, of course -- that he is, or was, prepared to sit out the entire season unless the Philadelphia 76ers trade him was always a front. And a pretty weak one at that.
On Oct. 1, the Sixers put $8.25 million of the $33M Simmons is due to make for the 2021-22 season into an escrow account, and from that account they are deducting, per ESPN, roughly $360,000 for every game, preseason or regular season, that Simmons misses.
After missing Monday's game against the Nets, he's out a million bucks. And what do you know: On Monday a report broke, via ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, that "discussions have gained momentum on Simmons returning to the Sixers, likely as soon as this week." Shortly thereafter, Wojnarowksi reported that Simmons has arrived in Philadelphia and taken a COVID test, and that once he clears protocols, he'll be back on the court.
