'Being harassed purposely': TMC vs BJP over ED summons to Abhishek Banerjee
India Today
The summons are completely politically motivated and Abhishek Banerjee is being targeted continuously, West Bengal Minister Bratya Basu has alleged.
Abhishek Banerjee is being harassed purposely, alleged West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu, hours after the Trinamool Congress MP was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in a coal smuggling case.
“After the results of Uttar Pradesh, Mamata Banerjee spoke about it and yesterday, she questioned Suvendu Adhikar in the Assembly. After that, a notice was sent to our leader. It is completely political and is being done to harass Abhishek Banerjee,” Bratya Basu told India Today TV.
The minister said that Abhishek Banerjee being targeted continuously is completely politically motivated. This is being done only with the Trinamool Congress, he added.
“What I am aware of is that he is being questioned in relation to the smuggling of coal and cows. Coal is guarded by the central agencies. Secondly, the narrative is that cows are being smuggled into West Bengal from Uttar Pradesh and then smuggled into Bangladesh from here. In that case, what is the administration of Uttar Pradesh doing about the smuggling? Borders are guarded by the Border Security Force (BSF),” Basu alleged.
Reacting to these allegations, BJP leader Manoj Tigga stated that Abhishek Banerjee gets summoned because he does not meet the investigating officers.

“Sin doesn't even leave one’s father. Why doesn't he go and meet the ED once? Why does he avoid it? Meet and finish the matter,” said Manoj Tigga.
