The BCI has distanced itself from an advertisement for an online law course put on a website similar to IGNOU's website.
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has released a statement distancing itself from a supposed advertisement for an online law course on a website that looks suspiciously like the Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU).
The country's regulating authority for legal education, BCI, stated that an attempt was made to make it appear as though this advertisement was on the IGNOU website, indicating that the university was commencing distant mode admission in LLB for the year 2022.
A press release issued by the BCI Secretary Srimanto Sen said, "It is being made clear/ to be made clear that such an advertisement is illegal and has been issued without proper recognition of any such degree and approval by the Bar Council of India."
Responding to a letter by the BCI, IGNOU Registrar VB Negi informed the council that no such advertisement for admission in LLB courses has been issued by the varsity on its website.
"The BCI is issuing the press release to this effect and intimating all stakeholders and the general public about such degree course being advertised not being recognised and approved by BCI," an official statement by the BCI read.
"And it is being advertised on a deceptively similar website as IGNOU's on https://ignou.icnn.in/ignou-llb-admission/ which is not IGNOU official website, using the name of IGNOU and IGNOU in fact is not connected with the same in any manner as per the letter received from its registrar," stated the Bar Council of India further.
