Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has instructed officials to identify roads where street vending can be permitted in the West Zone as per guidelines.
During Mr. Giri Nath’s routine zonal visit to the West Zone, he received grievances from the public, including street vendors, who urged authorities to refrain from taking action against them until designated vending zones were finalised. He directed this after he was gheraoed by the vendors during his visit.
Responding to their concerns, the commissioner stated that around 7,000 street vendors have already been identified in this zone. The BBMP is in the process of marking vending zones, and until then, officials have been directed to assess roads where vendors can temporarily operate.
Mr. Giri Nath also directed officials to remove permanent structures on footpaths used for unauthorised street vending. He stressed upon the importance of ensuring unhindered pedestrian movement and preventing encroachments by shops and stalls along footpaths.
Addressing a request from locals near T.R. Mills burial ground in Chamarajpet, Mr. Giri Nath agreed to submit a proposal for the construction of an electric crematorium on the three-acre premises to benefit the community.
At the public grievance meeting, more than 90 complaints were received from residents in the west zone. Mr. Giri Nath directed officials to resolve these issues promptly.
