'Baseless, politically motivated': Kerala CM refutes currency smuggling allegation

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has refuted allegations raised against him by Swapna Suresh, an accused in the gold smuggling case.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday denied allegations of currency smuggling raised by Swapna Suresh, the accused in the gold smuggling case. He termed the allegations baseless and politically motivated.
“These allegations are part of a political agenda. Such agendas are rejected by the people. After a break, the same old claims are repeated by the defendant in the case. There is not a shred of facts in this,” CM VIjayan said in a statement.
"The state government was the first to ask the Centre for a coordinated and effective investigation into the gold smuggling case. The state also pointed out some legitimate concerns about the modalities of the investigation,” he added.
The senior communist leader claimed that the same unsubstantiated allegations are being made again and again for political reasons.

"It is clear that making such cheap allegations against those who have been with people in the public sphere for a long time and are moving forward in public life in the face of false allegations is part of a conspiracy," he said.
“I am confident that our society will respond to those who think old allegations can be used to reap benefits. The people will recognise and reject the baseless propaganda aimed at discrediting the Left Democratic Front [LDF] government which is working for the overall development and social welfare of Kerala,” the chief minister added.
