Barry Trotz was never afraid of this Islanders challenge

TAMPA – When Barry Trotz thought back to when he was first presented with the opportunity to coach the Islanders, he recalled how he wasn’t afraid of the challenge.
Assuming the role as bench boss of the Islanders back in 2018 meant taking on a team that had missed the playoffs the previous two seasons and hadn’t surpassed the second round since 1993. The organization had endured the futile rebrand to the Fisherman logo, a fraudulent would-be owner named John Spano, a revolving door for coaches and a stint in Brooklyn, where Barclays Center simply wasn’t equipped to host hockey games. Plus, after Trotz had been on the job for less than a month, former Islanders captain John Tavares jumped ship for his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.More Related News
