Speaking to IndiaToday.in, Basudeb Sinha, who is the current resident of the house, narrated how the Lahiris got to the house in Bansdroni.
As the country mourned the demise of legendary music composer Bappi Lahiri, residents of a house in South Kolkata lamented the demise of a child who stayed with his parents in the house for 11 years.
Speaking to IndiaToday.in, Basudeb Sinha, who is the current resident of the house, narrated how the Lahiris got to the house in Bansdroni. He spoke about the place where Bappi Lahiri stayed with his parents for 11 years before changing their address and eventually leaving for Mumbai.
"The house is located in a place that is very near to the mega NT studios in Tollywood, so a lot of people related to films have stayed around. My father was related to Bappi's family and his parents wanted a place to stay. My father, Dr Debendra Sinha, asked the landlords if the Lahiris could stay in one of the rooms," Basudeb explained.
However, the house where the Disco King spent 11 years before moving out, is sadly in an extremely dilapidated condition.
Basudeb Sinha claimed that he had never met Bappi Lahiri as he was born almost 11 years after Lahiri. However, his sister, eminent mountaineer Dipali Sinha, was a childhood friend of Bappi Lahiri. It was Dipali Sinha who quashed theories of Lahiri not being born in Kolkata.
"I have heard about Bappi's birthplace being in Jalpaiguri, not Kolkata. A lot of misinformation is there on Google. I clearly remember his mother Bansuri bringing him to this house in a yellow taxi,” Dipali Sinha told IndiaToday.in.
The house was a witness to wonderful musical sessions of Lata Mangeshkar, Hemanta Mukherjee, Pandit Jasraj and many more. Even as the house in Bansdroni holds much importance in his life, it never saw Lahiri revisit it after he left.
