At least 19 people were hurt after two subway trains collided on the Upper West Side Thursday afternoon, causing one to derail, according to police and sources.
A northbound 1 train full of passengers was pulling out of the 96th Street station shortly after 3 p.m. when it collided with an MTA work train and derailed, police sources said.
The work train, which had nobody on board, was switching lane tracks at the time of the crash, sources said.
Police confirmed that at least 19 passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals.
The passenger train, which did not completely exit the station was evacuated via the station platform, sources said.
Service for 1, 2 and 3 trains has been shut down for most of Manhattan as officials investigate the incident, the MTA said.
