Once marred by insurgency, the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in Assam has been transforming itself by following the path of development and leaving guns behind. Many militant groups have left the path of violence and are returning to the mainstream.
Four districts -- Kokrajhar, Udalguri, Chirang and Baksa -- fall under the Bodo Territorial Region, which was earlier known as the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD). The region saw more than 5,000 people, including civilians and security personnel, getting killed in the past 3-4 decades due to the insurgency.
