Ahead of the assembly polls in Assam, Satyabrata Kalita, a sitting MLA of BJP's ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) resigned from the party on Saturday night.

In a major setback, a sitting MLA of BJP's ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) resigned from the party on Saturday night. Ahead of the assembly polls in Assam, Satyabrata Kalita is reportedly joining a new political party Asom Gana Parishad Pragatisil (AGP-P) which was formed by a section of former leaders of AGP with their anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) stand. Satyabrata Kalita who was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Kamalpur seat in 2016, met AGP president Atul Bora and gave his resignation letter on Saturday night.
