Assam losing Rs 300 crore per month due to power theft, non-payment of electricity bills

Chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a meeting with three Assam government-run power companies and asked them to work on strategies to plug the reasons behind the revenue loss.
Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that due to power theft and non-payment of electricity bills, the state power sector is losing revenue worth about Rs 300 crore per month, prompting the government to take firm steps to recover revenue and stop illegal power consumption. In a meeting with three Assam government-run power companies Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL), Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL) and Assam Electricity Grid Corporation (AEGCL) held in Guwahati, the CM expressed his concerns over dip in revenue collection and consequent loss and asked the power companies to work on strategies to plug the reasons behind the revenue loss. He directed the companies to design modalities for increasing their revenue generation and profits, including quality service delivery to the consumers.More Related News
