Authorities in Assam's Hojai, Karimganj and Darrang districts have launched an anti-encroachment drive to free state-owned land in possession of illegal occupants.
The Assam government has launched a drive against encroachment to reclaim state-owned land from illegal occupants. Over 400 bighas of encroached land have been freed in Hojai, Karimganj and Darrang districts of Assam. The BJP had promised in its Assam Assembly election manifesto to constitute a task force to remove illegal encroachments and recover lands of Satras - monasteries associated with the Ekasarana tradition of Vaishnavism founded by Sankardev, the famous religious reformer from the 15th-16th century. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the state government was committed and would take all steps to protect the state's land, identity, culture, language and heritage from aggressors and illegal migrants.More Related News
