The Assam government has ordered a judicial probe, under the chairmanship of a retired Justice of the Gauhati High Court, into the firing incident that took place when local people were protesting the district administration's eviction drive at the Dholpur Gorukhuti area in the state's Darrang district on Thursday.
The incident happened at a time when a team of security personnel had visited the area to evict encroachers and faced stone-pelting. According to the police, the security forces had then opened fire in self-defence which killed two persons.
