Following Saturday’s discussions between the two state governments to resolve the long-dtanding border dispute, the chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya will again meet Amit Shah.
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma held a crucial meeting in Guwahati on Saturday to resolve the long-standing border dispute between the two neighbouring states.
The closed-door meeting comes shortly after both chief ministers met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi earlier this month and submitted recommendations to resolve the inter-state border row.
Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika said that following Saturday’s discussions between the two state governments, the chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya will again meet Amit Shah.
“We have submitted our recommendations to the respective chief minister. We have two committees, one headed by Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister and another headed by myself and we have visited our disputed areas several times,” said Pijush Hazarika.

Out of 12 disputed areas, both states have taken six points to resolve in first phase and both states have each formed three regional committees. There are 36 villages in the six points covering an area of 36.79 sq km.
The Assam cabinet minister asserted that the final decision in the contentious matter would be taken by Parliament. “Both Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya will again meet the Union Home Minister. The boundary demarcation is the subject of the central government. Only Parliament can decide about the boundary between the two states,” Hazarika added.
