Kohli is set to complete a century of games in the shortest format of the game when India take on Pakistan in their Asia Cup opener. All eyes will be on the star batter as many are hoping that the 33-year-old will return to form during the tournament as he has been going through a rough patch in international cricket.
The former India captain's last century in international cricket came back in 2019 and many have questioned his place in the T20I setup ahead of the upcoming World Cup in Australia. However, the team management and captain Rohit Sharma have kept faith in the star batter and he is all set to play his 100th T20I match on Sunday.
De Villiers, who had shared the dressing room with Kohli during their time in Royal Challengers Bangalore, sent a special message to the former India captain ahead of his historic feat.
Speaking on video released by Star Sports' official Twitter account, the former South African star congratulated Kohli for becoming the first Indian player to play 100 matches in all three formats of the game. He hailed the feat by the 33-year-old as an amazing achievement and said that everyone is proud of Kohli.
De Villiers also sent his best wishes to the former India captain and said that everyone will be watching him during the match against Pakistan.
