Asia Cup 2022: Pushed back to the wall, Bangladesh looking to come out with claws against Sri Lanka
India Today
There is no hiding that both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are possibly at their worst in the shortest format of the game. However, that will make up for the first group stage knockout game in the Asia Cup, this year.
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have been pushed back against the wall after their hard to digest defeats in their respective opening matches in the Asia Cup 2022. Losses to both teams have been handed by the same team - Afghanistan - in near identical fashion, where the batting order tanked against the spirited bowlers of Afghanistan.
The woes are bigger for Bangladesh in particular, who will not only have to face the wrath of their fans after an early exit from the continental tournament, it is quite possible that their board will come out with their own version of loathing as well.
As things stand, one of the Asian powerhouses will be knocked out from the tournament, putting a major dent in their confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be hosted later in Australia.
Sri Lanka
The advantage possibly lies with Sri Lanka in the game considering Bangladesh’s recent problems with leg spin. The likes of Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga have the ability to exploit the Bangladesh batting line-up, who lost their top six batters to spin against Bangladesh.
