Ricky Ponting commented on Virat Kohli's knock against Pakistan in the Asia Cup and said that it was great to see the Indian star back amongst the runs.
Kohli's form in international cricket was a big topic of discussion heading into the tournament but the former India captain was able to get himself a good start on Sunday.
The star batter scored 35 runs in a calm knock that turned out to be crucial as India navigated through the tricky run chase to beat their arch-rivals by five wickets.
Speaking in the latest edition of the ICC Review, Ponting assessed the Indian star's innings and said that it was great to see him back amongst the runs. The Australian great said that it was no surprise Kohli found some form in a run chase.
Ponting also suggested that he hopes to see Kohli back to his best form in time for the upcoming T20 World Cup and said that he would rather like to see the former India captain come and perform in Australia and end up being one of the leading players in the tournament.
"First and foremost, great to see him back in the runs," Ponting said. “No surprise that he did it in a run chase. We’ve always known that about him. His record suggests he is better when his team is chasing runs."
