Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud and all-rounder Mahedi Hasan, on Saturday, August 20, have suffered injuries ahead of Asia Cup 2022. While Mahmud had to leave the ground because of an ankle injury, Mahedi hobbled off the park after being hit on the leg.
Both Mahedi and Hasan were practicing with their teammates at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Hasan sustained the injury while fielding and will need to rest for the next few days.
The speedster will also need to undergo an MRI scan to determine the severity of his injury. Mahmud won’t be taking part in the preparatory matches for Bangladesh ahead of the Asia Cup.
As far as Mahedi is concerned, he got injured while bowling to Mosaddek Hossain Saikat in the nets. Saikat smashed one down the ground and Mahedi failed to get out of the line of the ball. He left the training ground, after which he applied ice to his leg.
Bangladesh have had quite a few injury concerns over the last couple of weeks. Nurul Hasan Sohan, who captained the Tigers in Zimbabwe, is currently recovering from a finger injury. He got injured in the second T20I in Harare, following which he didn’t take part in the final T20I and the three-match ODI series.
Liton Das, one of the leading run-scorers in 2022, was also ruled out of the Asia Cup after he sustained a hamstring injury on the Zimbabwe tour. In Liton’s absence, Bangladesh have only two specialist openers, Anamul Haque Bijoy and Parvez Hossain Emon, in their squad.
