Former India captain Virat Kohli was high praise for Pakistan captain Babar Azam and called him the best batter in the world across formats.
Former India captain Virat Kohli spoke about Babar Azam ahead of India's high-profile clash against Pakistan on August 28, Sunday.
Kohli and Babar have enjoyed good camaraderie in the recent times and have been talking each other up in the last couple of years. Babar Azam even extended his wishes to Viart Kohli when he was going through a rough patch of form.
Speaking ahead of the Asia Cup, Kohli revealed his interactions with Babar Azam while speaking to Star Sports.
"The first interaction I had with him was the 2019 World Cup after the game in Manchester. Him and Imad (Wasim). Imad I have known since Under-19 cricket. We have played against each other and Imad said Babar wanted to have a chat," Kohli said in a chat.
"We sat down and spoke about the game. I saw a lot of regard and respect from him and that hasn't changed regardless of the fact that he is probably the top batsman in the world right now across formats, performing so consistently," the former India skipper said.
Kohli said that Babar was very grounded in his approach and the rapid success had not gone to his head. Predicting that the player will go a long way, Kohli said that the Pakistan captain had strong foundations.
