Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will kick off proceedings in Asia Cup 2022 on Saturday, August 27.
Both teams met each other only once in T20Is back in 2016 during the T20 World Cup in India, where Sri Lanka came up trumps after Tilakaratne Dilshan’s stupendous knock in a run-chase.
From there on, Mohammad Nabi’s Afghanistan have grown by leaps and bounds. In the Asia Cup 2018, the Afghans beat the Sri Lankans by 91 runs.
This time around, the Afghans have a strong spin-attack, comprising of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, skipper Nabi and Noor Ahmad.
Their batting isn’t the weakest by any stretch of the imagination. Hazratullah Zazai, Najibullah Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are more than capable with the willow.
Sri Lanka also have a pretty power-packed lineup. It will be interesting to see how the Afghan batters tackle the spin duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana.
