Ashes 2021-22: Australia have named 30-year-old Alex Carey as the wicketkeeper for the first 2 Tests of the much-anticipated series against England. He replaces Tim Paine who has taken an indefinite break after stepping down as captain.
Alex Carey will keep wickets for Australia in the absence of Tim Paine as the hosts announced their squad for the first two Tests of the much-anticipated Ashes series, starting December 8. Pat Cummins, as announced, will lead the side while Steve Smith will be his deputy.
Alex Carey, who made his international debut as early as 2018, comes in after Tim Paine took a mental health break following his resignation as captain over the sexting scandal. Carey, 30, will make his debut at the Gabba in Brisbane after having played 45 ODIs and 38 T20Is for Australia.
