Maharashtra's 19th CM Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday stepped down from his post ahead of a scheduled floor test. Here are other CMs who stepped down when faced with a floor test in the state assemblies.
Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray resigned as Maharashtra Chief Minister on Wednesday night. The announcement was made via Facebook Live shortly after the Supreme Court ordered the Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to take a floor test to prove its majority in the Assembly on June 30.
Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari had asked CM Uddhav Thackeray to prove his majority on the floor of the house on Thursday. In response, Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu had filed a plea in the Supreme Court challenging the same. However, The Supreme Court rejected the MVA government’s plea clearing the way for the floor test.

However, Uddhav Thackeray chose not to face the trust vote and resigned a day before the scheduled floor test. With the resignation, Uddhav Thackeray joined the list of Chief Ministers who resigned before a floor test.
Here’s a look at the CMs who resigned before a floor test in recent years:
MARCH 20, 2020: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath announced his resignation ahead of the Supreme Court-mandated floor test in the state assembly. Kamal Nath resigned because Congress did not have the numbers required to prove the majority in the house.
