With the Omicron variant of coronavirus surging across the US, Los Angeles County recorded its highest number of new Covid-19 cases in one week since the start of the pandemic, according to health officials.
The county had more than 200,000 confirmed cases over the past seven days, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said in a news release Saturday.
Hospitalizations doubled over the week to 3,200 and there were 135 Covid-related deaths, the department said.

A defiant Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is testifying before an investigative Georgia Senate Committee on Wednesday. The committee scrutinized her prosecution of President Donald Trump and multiple codefendants, at one point cutting Willis’ microphone briefly when she testified beyond the question she was asked.
