Roma coach Jose Mourinho has been banned for two games as punishment for his outburst during the latest setback when his team drew 2-2 with Verona in the Italian league.
AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho has been given a two-match touchline ban after he was sent off during his side's 2-2 draw with Verona on Saturday. Mourinho, who was red-carded, encroached onto the field in Saturday's game to argue with the referee and then kicked the ball into the crowd.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said Mourinho "made serious allegations" against the referee, and entered the pitch "with a threatening attitude, blatantly disputing the refereeing decision". The Portuguese coach, who left the stadium without stopping for post-match media duties following his side's draw, has also been fined 20,000 Euros ($23,000).
Mourinho made a telephone gesture towards Pairetto, which Italian media reported was in reference to his father Pierluigi, who was involved in the Italian match-fixing scandal of 2006. Eighth-place Roma is winless in its last three league games — all draws, including one against relegation-threatened Genoa.
The ban means Mourinho won't be on the touchline for Roma's games at Spezia on Sunday and at home against Atalanta on March 5. The draw leaves Mourinho's side in eighth place in Serie A, six points outside the Champions League qualification places.
