
Arpita wanted to adopt child, says ED. Partha Chatterjee had 'no objection'

Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee are both in jail after a massive amount of cash - running into crores - was recovered from Arpita’s homes in Kolkata by the financial probe agency.
Former Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee’s aide Arpita Mukherjee wanted to adopt a child, the Enforcement Directorate said in its chargesheet. Chatterjee signed off on the no-objection certificate issued to her as a family friend, it added.
When confronted with the adoption documents, Partha Chatterjee said that since he is a public representative, many people come to him for such recommendation letters.
The chargesheet also had details of the searches conducted at the homes of the two and of all the documents, cash and items that were found.

Chatterjee and Mukherjee are both in jail after a massive amount of cash - running into crores - was recovered from Arpita’s homes in Kolkata by the financial probe agency. Since their arrest, the agency has been continuously questioning them about their involvement in the teachers’ recruitment scam.
The former minister’s and his aide’s bail plea was recently rejected by the Calcutta High Court, which extended the custody of the two by another 14 days.
